What is
Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual Direction, also known as Spiritual Accompaniment, is an ancient practice of listening for the movement of the Divine in our lives. It’s a moment of contemplation meant to help deepen your understanding of and relationship with God, whatever that looks like in your life.
While some people may come to Spiritual Direction with particular questions or desires, goal setting and problem-solving are not the primary function of Spiritual Direction. Rather, it is meant to help cultivate a deeper understanding and awareness of where you find God in your day-to-day life.
What to Expect During a Session
Each virtual session is 60 minutes. We start with a moment of silence, an opening prayer, or a check-in with our breath— as we get to know one another, you can discern what is most helpful to you.
During our time together, my goal is to cultivate a space of listening and reflection. You may share about where you have seen God in your life since our last session or reflect on questions that have been stirring in your heart. I will listen and at times ask questions to help deepen your reflection. If it’s helpful for you, I may suggest resources such as Scripture passages, poems, or songs.
The main purpose of our time together is simply to notice. It can be challenging to give ourselves the time and space to attune to the Divine in our busy lives. Spiritual Direction is a chance to slow down and appreciate all the ways in which God speaks to us.
Our sessions will end with a prayer, offering gratitude for our time together and what we’ve noticed.
